Pink Saturday on Sunday

Posting a little late because of sickness (so sorry for anyone who stopped by yesterday). This old ornament was bought by my grandmother and brings back so many memories of Christmas' pasts. My mom has about 6 left and they're really fragile. I found a tree for her to hang them on along with some other old ornaments she still has. She doesn't remember where her mother bought them but it had to be so long ago. (My grandmother passed away in 1963).

I love these so much! To me, the memories from our past hold us all so dear to each other. Christmas was always so special in our house. With ten kids we really didn't buy much. My mom helped us make decorations, we held our Christmas plays (see post down), we pulled names and we had each other. Now we still gather at my mom's house, and our family has grown to over 50. We still sing Christmas carols, pull names and eat too much. The love and laughter are there as always. I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and a great pink saturday!! Please visit Beverly and share some of the pink-my new blog to visit is Laura at 52 Flea. She has some wonderful Christmas photos and I love the vintage items and flea market finds!

Christmas 1951

Christmas 1951, originally uploaded by suesueb.

I obviously don't remember this (since I wasn't there yet!) but I love this picture. One year I made them each a Christmas card and put a Santa hat on the one I sent it to. Aren't the dolls darling too? Hope your memories are joyful too!!

2009 Christmas Tree

2009 Christmas Tree, originally uploaded by suesueb.
For some reason I'm having a hard time signing on to my blog so I'm doing this through flickr. My daughter gave me this aluminum tinsel tree one Christmas years ago and I usually put it up along with a real tree )which I decorate in vintage ornaments and red and green colors). This year I cut back on so much decorating and simply put this one up with its' pinks, blues and greens and did the mantel to match. I hope I can get on my computer blogs tomorrow to visit the pink ladies of saturday fame! Happy pink (and red and green) week to y'all all!!
Finally got here! Sometimes my computer won't load up my blog (or others). I really don't know how to make it go faster. Anyway, here's the link to visit for Pink Saturday.

Pink Saturday and Wonderful Memories

My favorite Christmas memories are the plays that we (myself with my siblings) performed every Christmas Eve for my Mom and Dad. My oldest sister would write the play and direct us. We often started in the summer and would make costumes out of any available materials and old clothes. I blogged about this play before and I thought it would great for Pink Saturday because of my costume ( and the bunny)! In this scene my brother is trying to steal the flowers from Spring. I love looking at all these pictures so much and remembering such wonderful times! My mom had all the Christmas pictures in one album and I scanned them on to CD's for everyone in the family. Thanks Beverly for letting us share another special time with each other during this holiday season!!

Today is also this little girl's 2nd Birthday. Rachael and Georgia have moved back home with us and while we're still figuring out where to put everything, the upside is seeing this adorable face more often!! She's so grown up and talks all the time. So much has happened in the last two years but we love having her around to brighten up our world!!

2009 Ornament Swap

My hexagon ornaments for Amy's annual Christmas ornament swap. I loved making these-even tho' they're so tiny! The Christmas fabrics make me smile :)

Wrapped each one in cello bags with tulle strips as cushioning.

Packaged the whole thing and forgot about the postage so I had to add it in the envelope addressed to Amy. I think I packed and unpacked it about 5 times!!!

Used my new masking tape "happy tape" that I ordered from Stampington! All the colors are so fun! Can't wait to get my ornaments for this year-so much talent and love out there!! Thanks again Amy!

Some really sweet Christmas fabric destined to become another little girls' dress. It really could be worn throughout the winter. Will post a picture of the dress later this week-I need to go finish up a little quilt for a birthday gift for today. I'll visit around tonight when I'm relaxing! Go visit here!!

Pink Saturday

Another Pink Saturday already and I hope you join me in visiting some of the pink blogs from here.
Showing some more dresses I made for a friend's grand daughters. Trying to do some Christmas early.

I love this fabric by Alexander Henry-so bright and fun! (trying to find some more) It's hard to see but I used some fancy stitches along the hem.

I hope you all have a wonderful Pink Saturday and will try to visit as much as possible this week. I won't be participating for a while with family matters and holiday and sewing obligations. Wishing y'all all some wonderful months ahead with family and friends!

Creative Spaces

I love checking out the Creative Spaces hosted by this lovely lady. So many great inspirations and really cute ideas!! Sharing my space this week with some Christmas ornaments I'm making for a swap. Finally joined all the quilters with their hexagon love. These little bitty things take some time! But they're really quite addictive. Maybe after the other holiday chaos settles down, I'll try to make some larger ones.

Going visit the other creative ladies on the list-later!

Movie sets and loving my repaired Bernina

They filmed a small movie in town last week and I took a few pictures of the set before they started. It's being done by a local couple who have done quite a few films, historical fiction and non-fiction. This one is about WWII soldiers who married French girls and brought them home after the war. They set up this store front to recreate the 1940's.

Isn't it neat??

Don't you wish the prices were the same today??

I did go watch a little while when I walked my dog but didn't bring the camera. Loved the old cars and clothes!!

On another note, sewing happily with my repaired machine. I had sent it off for a few(long) weeks and really missed though my d-i-l lent me her Brother. I've been having fun with the fancy stitches that I couldn't use for so long. Check it out..............

Little flower stitch.

Zig-zag for the applique and a buttonhole stitch around the yoke.

Making me soooooooo  happy!!!

I hope y'all enjoy them all and have a great day visiting the pink gals with Beverly!!

Another fave-love the colors in here!

The garments were equally astounding!

And of course I have to include some pictures of my grand babies who are so grown up now!

Mystic Mantle

Mystic Mantle, originally uploaded by suesueb.
Finally got around to decorating for this year. I ordered some more things but haven't received them yet so I used what I had. My family and I love this holiday-we always have a big party (my turn this year) and everyone has to dress up, even a simple costume. We've had some great ones!!  I have more pictures on my flickr page and will add as I put more out! Happy Halloween!

"Tulle Tututorial"

Made Georgia her Halloween tutu today. She's going to be a witch! I used three colors, green, purple and black. First I layered the fabrics while they're still folded. Then I cut out squares approximately 26" by 26". This gave me 6 squares per cut. I had 3 yards of each color and ended up with 24 total squares.

I then pinched the middle of the square, made a little twist and pinned it to a 1 and 1/2" black ribbon. I also pinned a piece of ribbon (about 6") first. Here's an example of the back (because of course I didn't take pictures when I did it).

Then the front......................

After I pinned all the squares and ribbons, I sewed everything down about a quarter of an inch from the edge of the ribbon on the wrong side so I could make sure I caught it all.

Front

Next I folded the black ribbon over and sewed it down to make a casing. I ran an elastic through the casing and sewed down the ends. I put a snap on the ends to close it. This tutu is very full. It would be fun to add bells or charms to the ribbon ends if you were making a fairy or princess tutu. If you'd want to do a larger one you'd simply have to open the tulle up and cut bigger squares and probably use 6 or more yards of tulle for each color depending on how full you want it and how big the waist would be.

I had the pieces left that I had cut from the folded edges so I gathered them together to add to her hat.

I can't wait to finish it all and see her model it!! Any questions? Just ask!

Christmas in October

It's so hard to believe it's already October! I haven't posted in forever but really getting some things done. Sewing still for some little girls, making some jewelry from old buttons and vintage finds, and knitting in the evenings. This is  a pattern I'm doing for  a Christmas gift-probably one of the hardest I've done as far as tediousness. I couldn't understand the instructions for the body (will have to find some help there) so I started on the sleeves.

This little bit took about 2 days!! The color is much prettier in person-from Spud and Chloe.

And I had to include a sweet picture of my little grandson-he needed glasses and I think he's so cute! He's been fabulous with wearing them all the time but it's so funny because they're sooooooo dirty all the time!

Happy Fall Y'all!!

Cowgirls and their horses.

I finally finished the cowgirl dress for a little girl who won't wear dresses. Her mom let her choose her own fabric and at first I thought, hmmmmmm. I really like how it turned out, so sweet with the ruffle! (and she wore it!)

I also made her a backpack to match. Her mom said she loved that more for all her horses! Fun and sweet! I think I may make more of these for gifts.

Still haven't figured out the new blogger pictures and how to move them around.

First Mosaic

My first mosaic made with pictures from my niece. These were taken at the birthday party for Celie. Of course, I think they're precious!
I tried all morning to publish these from Big Huge Labs with no success. I finally saved it in IPhoto and pulled it from there. There's still so much I need to learn about the computer!!
p.s. Don't you wish as a mom that you could trade all your kids' hurts or heartaches!! One of those weeks!

Pink Saturday

Crochet Pincushion, originally uploaded by suesueb.
I crocheted this one night while tv was on. I had originally thought to submit it to SEWN blog pincushion challenge but realized that it wasn't sewn!! I can be a little dense sometimes! Anyway, hope y'all have a wonderful Pink Saturday and visit a few pink gals today! One of my pink links I love is Queen of Dreamsz. She has some wonderful image free artwork and great inspirations!!

Birthday sewing

I'm using the new format for blogger for posting and still figuring things out. Don't know why the pictures are different sizes.
The itty bitty dress (3T version) was made for my great niece's 4th birthday. She's in preschool now so I thought the fabric was appropriate.
I drew a cat on black and embroidered it to look like a chalkboard drawing. Really quick and fun!
Since I had some fabric remnants I also made my first pencil roll. Of course, not reading directions, I just looked at some pictures and measured the pencils. The pockets are too short or too big but the pencils fall out easily. I need to do that better.
This is the rolled up view. A button and hair elastic are the easiest options for little fingers to close.
The party was so fun! The theme was fairies and the little girls had wings and beautiful headbands. The little boys had wands (bubbles) or they could be swords. There were butterflies everywhere in the garden and little fairies and animals for the kids to find. I'll have to post a picture of Georgia and Gabe on flickr or here when I get one. I forgot my camera so my niece took some pics for me.
It's raining here again today which is okay since I have so much to do at home. Finishing another dress for someone and doing info books for our local woman's club. Really late this year with the inside, the outside is almost done thanks to my Cricut! Y'all have a good day!!
