good morning to all and i hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!! (post Christmas post below) here is a picture of a  couple of dresses i made for my daughter-in-law to give. i made them both reversible so they could get twice the wear. i loved that for my girls, especially when we went somewhere and they got dirty.
here are the flowers i crocheted for the blue courdoroy one.
and here is a pic of the other side of each.
hope y'all all go to visit the pink ladies on beverly's blog-see y'all!

Christmas 2008

i can't believe it's over----again. hope santa brought you all what you wanted! my tree this year below. i only had room for one and i like the traditional when i have to choose, filled with old ornaments (some handmade by me), candy molds, and soft garland.
the card i made for my brothers and sisters. inside is a Christmas picture of us all from 1976. i'd show it but i still haven't connected my scanner to my computer (it's only been 11 months)! i found this quote during the summer and knew instantly that i'd use it for my cards for them.
this year my kids and i decided to celebrate together Christmas evening. i wanted it special for all of us so i used my sets of Christmas dishes and silverware. i won these fitz and floyd dishes one year (i think 1981). i had only bought one ticket from a friend to support the effort and when i got the phone call i was so confused. the caller said i had won some china and could i go pick it up in houma and go in a truck or large vehicle. there were so many boxes! place settings for eight including plates, cups, saucers, bowls, serving pieces, etc. i love them and i felt so lucky!!
these dishes i bought at target one year. i wish they'd sell them again so i could buy more! they're so much fun and match my kitchen so well i display them on my open shelves during the season. i think we all had a wonderful evening. the kids all enjoyed their gifts (especially the baby books which i need to take pics of and blog). they gave E a vcr/dvd player and we watched old home movies and laughed so much. i think it'll be a wonderful new tradition. the past couple of years we were sort of displaced since we lost our second home with one of my best friends' mom's death. we always celebrated with them and then last year we had lost my brother in november and rachael had georgia on dec. 5 (and was having a few problems) and the holidays were confusing and sad and happy all at once. i couldn't even find all my ornaments for the tree because i couldn't remember where i put them. this year was sad because of kellie being gone but at my mom's everyone made it through playing with all the babies (3 new) and enjoying being together. it was noisy and fun. i hope your holidays were merry and bright too!!

good morning pink ladies. hope this day finds you ready for Christmas. i know i'm not but that's always a usual thing for me. the picture below is one of my pinks for the day. it isn't the best but the concert which it comes from is fantastic! the trans-siberion orchestra is absolutely one of the best to be heard. we went to new orleans thursday night for the show at the arena and i was not expecting this performance at all. my husband was the one who wanted to go because he loves music so much and i was so glad i hobbled along. the lights, the pyrotechnics, the unbelievable voices and musicians!! if you get the chance to go and love music, take it!
then friday night i opted for a quiet evening watching "White Christmas", one of my favorite holiday shows. if you check out the trailer, which i will try to link to, the dress that vera ellen wears in her dance number is the prettiest pink! when i watch these shows it's the only time i wish for snow for Christmas. a few years ago, though, that actually happened and of course, no one could go anywhere because we aren't prepared for that kind of weather.
here's the link: White Christmas

pink birthday for pink saturday

when rachael found out she was expecting in december, the only thing her stepson asked her was not to have the baby on the fifth. well.....of course she went into labor early and had her then. i think now he's accepted it and is sort of happy to share his day. his dad and rachael took him eat a steak and lobster dinner on the fifth and celebrated georgia's b-day on the sunday. we had a cake for each of them even though the theme was cupcakes. here's will with his chocolate cake (surrounded by pinkness).

here's g's cake.
the table with more little cupcakes and decorations.
a knitted cupcake to play with.
and the birthday girl herself!
please join beverly and her pink ladies this saturday to check out all the pink posts!!

good morning. i'm joining another pink saturday with this photo from Christmas past. in this play (check post below) the robber is trying to steal spring and santa will come to the rescue. i love looking at all these pictures. the little rabbit in the background is kellie and obviously she had a little problem at the moment with her costume not coming off that easy! hope y'all all have a wonderful pink week!!

my oldest sister decided one year that she would write and produce a Christmas play for our parents. Since she had a great bunch of actors (aka brothers and sisters who were told to cooperate), the cast was always there to obey. the plays were usually written during the summer and costumes were scrounged in the attic amongst the many barrels and boxes of saved scraps. crepe paper (the good kind), satin, old clothes, and any thing that could be turned into something else were staples. i think this play was about the toys at santa's workshop. the memory of this year that sticks in my head was my little brother who played the "jack-in-the-box". he fell asleep while waiting for his cue and the box had to be kicked a couple of times for him to wake up and pop up. we all loved these plays. so much creativity and old-fashioned fun! i'll post more pics during the month.

pink saturday mittens

pink saturday mittens, originally uploaded by suesueb.

these are my first knitted mittens! not too hard. i made them for the "heart to hands" to send to kids in LOCKPORT, New York. a friend pointed out that coincidence since i missed it. (i live in lockport, LA). i hope to do a red pair and then ship them off this week. check out all the PINK blogs on pink saturday through "how sweet the sound".

never enough to do!

merry christmas! i know it's a little early but if i don't start now i'll never be ready. (who am i kidding-i'm never ready!) these next few weeks will be crazy because i have to make party invites (almost done), some crafts for a show, (none new done) and then i signed up for a ornament swap with amy (my present to me).

aren't these cupcakes adorable? and chocolate-my favorite. at least these are calorie free. they were created for georgia's first birthday and i used my cricut.

these little cupcakes below were inspired by betz white. of course, down in south louisiana it's hard to find lots of wool sweaters to felt so i made do with what i had.
and last but not least, THANKS for giving. to all my friends, family, and anyone who passes on some bit of kindness or a smile. november has always been a nostalgic month for me and it's more so now. my birthday, which i'm glad to be able to celebrate, but it means winter is coming and that's really not my favorite time of year. gloomy days bring me down and i have to work especially hard to stay optimistic about things. my foot hasn't healed yet and that is really frustrating also. anyway-i am grateful for all i have. all the love and family closeness that so many people don't have. i thank God always. happy thanksgiving to you all!!

the weather has been beautiful here-perfect fall! unfortunately, several of us have head colds and the general feeling around here has been sort of lousy. the improve my spirits i, of course, read blogs and i came across this post through greeting arts blog. a beautiful mission to help others and i've been wanting to try to knit mittens (and not too many people here wear them). if i don't succeed i'll just go out and buy some. hopefully i can do it. join me if you can! thanks.

happy hauntings!! the weather here is glorious today and so tonight halloween should be absolutely perfect! my two little babies are not going to be around so i'm heading over to a friend's house for their little party. just wanting to share a few halloween pics that i already posted on flickr. i made these two pillows for my craft sale and sadly they have to remain in my house this year. i love them though so i really can't complain.
this is a picture of my brother-in-law's haunted house in his front yard. it's so huge you can't even see his house! totally fabulous!! i have some more pictures on my flickr page for details. don't think any of the kiddies will approach it though!
this is my adorable red-haired niece. i found this darling red-haired witchy fabric and knew i needed to make her a dress for halloween. also made her a potion bag! isn't she so cute?
lastly i want to link to a blog for a fantastic giveaway. jc handmade will make a custom baby quilt for YOU. just enter and link to maybe be the lucky one (p.s. i like greens and blues).  i found this blog thru my good friend cathy. she also makes fantastic things and even though she had a baby just about two weeks ago, she's been blogging and keeping up with her reading! go visit and see her creations.

morning pink ladies! how have y'all all been? i've been busy crafting for a small show at my sister's house this sunday so i pulled out some of the "pinks" to share.

these are a few over-sized gift tags (each is about 5-6 inches)  i cut and decorated using my cricut. so much fun! they make a great presentation and can be used in a scrapbook after.
this is one of my purses. i still need to add handles. the black is courduroy which really didn't film well. the bottom is repro barkcloth which is soooo cool!
this little hat is knit with bamboo yarn. it's not too heavy  and is really soft! the plus is i bought it at Michael's which is great since there are no yarn shops too close and i really don't go to new orleans as much anymore.
so there you have it! a few of the many things i'm selling this fall. hope to visit beverly and y'all all through the week since i've finally decided to put my foot up to hopefully heal. see ya!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
above is my halloween mantel that i finally managed to decorate. i didn't get out all my halloween goodies-but better than nothing!!
this is a small quilt i made for kt. i guess i'll give it up because she finally got her house!! we're all so happy for her-it's been quite a while since they first put their bid in (june). with the storms and all they had to do to make the loan appraiser happy, it took months. the witch shoe is hers too but the little picture is mine. it's from a darling card from a friend that was too cute to put away so i framed it!
another halloween scene on my dining room table. the hat's from dept. 56 which i love!! all their stuff is soooo cute!
my halloween feather tree. i clipped my atc collection (thanks to amy) i played in her swap for the past two years and can't wait for my new cards. below are the ones i made. i recycled the raven material from someone and cut out each one. the background is paper stitched on dupioni(?) silk from my niece's wedding. i love using stuff i've saved. my family thinks i'm crazy sometimes with what i collect but i consider it "going green" in my way.
hope ya'll enjoyed the preview of the holiday. tomorrow i'll try to post some pics of my new projects from the past week.

Thursday, October 9, 2008

goodness-i'm so late with my halloween decorations! not surprising since lately i can't seem to catch up with myself. i hung my door banner that i made a few years ago. i'd like to make some more quilts like this-i still have so much fabric (ha, ha).
this is a dress i made today for georgia for fall. i wanted something different. the check looks brown but is really black and burnt orange.
i made the pumpkins with felted wool and stitched them with perle cotton. i wasn't sure at first what to use for the stems but i finally thought of the buttons.
this i made for a swap with peggi. i was so late sending it out because i couldn't find her address. hope she received it by now. "make a wish"!!
busy tomorrow working on birthday gifts for this weekend. will show and tell monday!

About Me

My photo

I'm a stay at home mom of four adult children. I've always been interested in creating and have been sewing since I was a young girl. Everyone loves lagniappe. It's the little extra things in life that make it special, whether it's a sweet, sticky kiss from a child or a great cajun cup of coffee.
